You sound more professional when you use commonWorkplace English.
Business English is spoken inside companies all around the world, so professionals in Thailand should understand it. And since it is used inside companies, let’s refer to it as “Workplace English.”
Is Workplace English really different from speaking regular English? In our opinion, yes it is.
For example, I’ve definitely spoken or written the phrase “have you had a chance to review…?” to my coworkers or customers, but I’ve probably never said it to my spouse.
That’s because at home, outside of the workplace, I’d probably say something informal like “have you checked…?”

“Have you had a chance to review…?” is different in terms of tone and attitude from “Have you checked…?” And in our opinion, building up your vocabulary with more Workplace English will indicate to other professionals that you speak their language.
This is important for communicating professionally in business as it builds trust. The people you speak to get a sense that you know what you’re talking about, simply because they’ve heard this language before.
Workplace English should be used in business meetings, presentations, sales negotiations, chatting in Slack, sending emails, and almost any conversation you have in a professional setting.
The goal of activating your Workplace English is to ensure that you can express ideas in ways that other English-speaking professionals are familiar with.

Key Differences Between Workplace English and regular English
Vocabulary
Workplace English involves more professional-sounding vocabulary and industry-specific terminology than regular everyday English. Again, Workplace English is a way for you to demonstrate expertise in your job.
ECSC can help you in this area because our trainers have professional business-world experience in addition to English training experience.
Tone of Voice
While day-to-day communication can be casual and informal, on-the-job communication requires more formality. A polite, respectful tone of voice is essential to creating a positive impression and maintaining effective relationships with colleagues, clients, and superiors.
ECSC can help you in this area because our trainers have been employed in many different levels of business, from entry-level to management.
Chatting in Slack
Written communication in the workplace, such as direct messaging, emailing, and reports requires clarity and organized structure. Your English-speaking coworkers and customers have expectations for concise sentences, direct questions, and clear formatting so they can understand your message without difficulty. And believe me, this make them think more positively about your professionalism.
ECSC can help you in this area because our trainers have worked for companies of all sizes with all kinds of communication tools.
Presentations & Public Speaking
Communicating your ideas using English for Presentations requires very simple, but very “workplace,” vocabulary. This ensures that the introduction, body, and conclusion of your presentation is clear to English-speaking audiences.
ECSC can help you in this area because our trainers have experience standing in front of rooms full of people in corporate environments.
Negotiations
Workplace English equips professionals with the ability to handle situations where it is important to influence people. This involves knowing when to speak, knowing when to listen, and knowing which Workplace English vocabulary to use to communicate with impact.
ECSC can help you in this area because our trainers have had jobs in sales.
