English for Customer Service Is Important in Thailand

Bangkok employees can build their vocabularies with many words about customers.

For Thai professionals looking to advance in their careers, knowing the right English for customer service is important. That’s because getting new customers and keeping old ones happy are two of the most important things a business must do to make profits, grow, and succeed long-term.

It’s why your company probably invests so much in customer satisfaction. And in this article, you will learn the meanings of three common English multi-words that involve the word ‘customer’.

These three units of vocabulary will be very helpful to you, especially if your job involves communicating in English with customers or talking about them with your coworkers.

Customer Base

The first English multi-word using the word ‘customer’ that you should know for speaking good English for customer service is ‘customer base’.

This Business English term refers to a specific group of people to which a company sells its products and services. When used at work, for example, you might hear your boss or coworker say, “This company needs to expand its customer base if we want to get more sales,” or, “That company is successfully growing its customer base with its new advertising strategy.”

Customer Retention

The second English for customer service phrase is ‘customer retention’, which refers to the things a company can do to keep their existing customers satisfied – in particular, it means to keep them from leaving and buying the same products or services from another company.

For example, you might hear someone in your sales department say, “This company’s customer retention exceeded expectations last quarter due to our Songkran promotion for existing customers,” or, “Customer retention will be extremely important to our success this year because there are fewer potential new customers in our market due to competition from China.”

Regular Customer

The last multi-word of English for customer service is ‘regular customer’. This is a bit of Business English that everyone has heard, but maybe they don’t know how to use it.

It does not mean that a customer is ธรรมดา! It means that a customer is ลูกค้าทำซ้ำ, which of course means that they purchase your products or services regularly and probably have done for a long time.

Most companies like to have regular customers because they can be relied upon to provide consistent revenue. That’s an indication that they’re satisfied with the product or service that you are providing them. When communicating in Business English, employees or managers could say, “This restaurant serves a lot of regular customers every week,” or, “She has been a regular customer at this shop for many years, make sure to take good care of her.”
