English Courses in Thailand

Employee English Courses are effective when they focus on three simple things.

EDITOR’S NOTE: This article is about Employee English Courses, which is one of ECSC Thailand’s four training services.

Employee English courses in Thailand have been stuck in the same place for years.
That’s because most of Bangkok’s English training providers still teach grammar rules. And they still use a “Business English” textbook like “Market Leader.”

Now, grammar is okay and that textbook is fine, but they are the old way of teaching English lessons. They are a bit boring and, apparently, they have not been effective.

This article will show you how ECSC Thailand provides English training in a new way that is more effective.

What Makes Employee English Courses in Thailand Effective?

ECSC believes Business English courses for Thai professionals should be focused on three things: vocabulary, pronunciation, and speaking practice.

More specifically, lessons should have these two features to help your employees do their jobs more effectively & confidently:
  • Lessons should teach professional, job-related vocabulary
  • Lessons should allow interactive, role-play speaking practice
Our trainers are native speakers from the UK, US, Canada, and Down Under. They are “Business English” experts because they are certified trainers AND experienced working in the business world.

ECSC Offers Two Types of Business English Courses

English lessons for companies can be general or specific. That means the vocabulary in the lessons can be relevant to all employees OR it can be focused on certain employees’ needs.
That difference separates the two types of courses we offer:
  • If you would like staff from all around your company to learn together, lessons would cover General Business English (GBE).
  • If you would like staff from one specific team or department to learn together, lessons would cover English for Specific Departments (ESD).
GBE is for employees who want to build confidence to speak English in ordinary professional conversations. GBE courses are ideal for beginner-level English speakers.
ESD is for employees who need to speak more convincingly with other experts in their area of expertise. ESD courses are ideal for intermediate-level English speakers and above.

Three Quick Examples of ESD Courses

ESD courses are targeted towards upskilling specific departments in your company. The key word is “department.” For example…
Sales Department ESD courses focus on vocabulary for salespeople, and teach tone of voice, body language, and timing. Speaking practice in an “English for Sales” course would involve role plays of sales negotiations, sales pitches, handling rejection, etc.

Customer Service ESD courses would include speaking AND writing practice. Students will learn to how to speak clearly & concisely; they will also learn effective email structure, efficient subject lines, and how to provide short, direct answers politely.

Marketing ESD courses involve vocabulary that “compels & sells.” Lessons train marketers on how to make an impact in campaigns and on social media. And it helps them communicate with each other better internally, such as when brainstorming ideas.

NOTE: We offer other kinds of “specific training,” too, not just “department specific.” ECSC’s Business English workshops focus on narrow topics such as email writing, business meetings, presentations, and more.

How Long Are Employee English Courses? What About Pricing?

Employee English courses in Thailand can take the form of a “short course” or require a multi-month commitment.
Learning English really is a matter of “practice makes perfect,” and there are no quick fixes. Our opinion is based on years of experience providing corporate English training in Bangkok.
ECSC offers 15, 30, or 45-hour courses, with each lesson being 90-minutes long. Here is an overview of what a GBE or ESD course could look like for your company:
  • Length: 45-hour course (30 lessons at your offices)
  • Schedule: Twice per week for 15 weeks
  • Participants: 4-12 students per course
  • Price: 3,000 THB/hr. all in = 135,000 THB investment (45 hours)
This is a serious investment with high ROI potential. This is upskilling of 12 employees to communicate more effectively & confidently. This can help your company earn more new business and maintain more existing business. And there are significant team-building benefits as well.
